The latest trip I enjoyed was a trip to Udaipur. To be very honest, this place has a different vibe. Just by sitting on the terrace of the zostel I stayed in which was very close to lake Pichola and had this beautiful view of of the Aravalli hills, the lake, the boats, the Jag Mandir, I could think about my life from a different perspective while just enjoying the beautiful sunsets with a cup of coffee and the view. However, my hunger of exploring off beat places was still not satisfied. That is when I tried having a talk with a localite and discovered a beautiful place to watch mesmerising sunrise and sunset. You wanna know the place? Let's Go!!!!
Nestled in the vibrant state of Rajasthan, Udaipur is known for its stunning lakes, palaces, and heritage sites. However, hidden away from the regular tourist locations lies an enchanting and offbeat destination, the Raita Hills. This untouched gem is a treasure of breathtaking landscapes, unique experiences, and a tranquil ambiance that sets it apart from the bustling tourist spots.
1. Why is it an Offbeat Place?
The Raita Hills still remain a hidden gem primarily due to its relative obscurity among tourists. Unlike popular destinations in Udaipur, this place is still unexplored and less visited by the tourists. The lack of commercialization and minimal promotion by tour operators contribute to its offbeat status ( in a very good way). It's perfect for travelers who are seeking solitude, peace, and a genuine connection with nature.
2. Uniqueness:
The Raita Hills boast a unique landscape that is a combination of rugged terrain with lush greenery. The area is a mix of rocky outcrops, deep gorges, and meandering streams, presenting a stunning contrast. The tranquility of the hills is enhanced by the absence of large crowd of tourists, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the serenity of the surroundings. The hilltops offer a panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, making it a photographer's paradise.
3. Location:
The Raita Hills are located in the southern part of Rajasthan, approximately 50 kilometers away from Udaipur. The hills fall in the Aravalli Range which is one of the oldest mountain ranges in India, known for its geological and ecological significance.
4. How to Reach:
From Udaipur:
- By Road: The most convenient way to reach the Raita Hills from Udaipur is by hiring a taxi or taking a private vehicle, mostly two wheeler. The journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the road conditions and climate.
5. Is it a Trek?
Yes, reaching the hilltops involves a simple to moderate trek. While the ascent is not very challenging, it does require a basic level of fitness. The trek trails wind through rocky terrains and dense vegetation, offering a memorable experience for adventure lovers.
6. Distance from Udaipur and Other Main Cities of Rajasthan:
- Distance from Udaipur: Approx 50 kilometers
- Distance from Jaipur: Approx 400 kilometers
- Distance from Jodhpur: Approx 270 kilometers
- Distance from Ahmedabad: Approx 290 kilometers
7. Best Time to Visit:
The ideal time to visit Raita Hills is during the winter and monsoon seasons. The winter months (October to March) offer pleasant weather with cool to cold temperatures, making the trek more enjoyable. The monsoon season (July to September) transforms the landscape with lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, and a refreshing vibe. However, it is essential to check the weather conditions before planning your visit, as heavy rainfall might make the trek challenging and unsafe.
8. Nearby Attractions for Sunrise and Sunset Views:
For captivating sunrise and sunset views, you can also consider visiting the following places near the Raita Hills:
- Jaisamand Lake: Located about 30 kilometers away from the Raita Hills, Jaisamand Lake is the second-largest artificial lake in Asia. The serene lake setting offers a mesmerizing spot to witness both sunrise and sunset.
- Sajjangarh Palace (Monsoon Palace): Situated on a hilltop, this palace offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the surrounding landscape. Sunset views from here are particularly breathtaking.
