Hi all!
I'm a fresher who has cracked Indian Patent Agent in the year 2023 and has been taking internship under a small firm in Mumbai. I got this job only because of some creative skills I had while I was preparing for the exam from the same firm.
But the truth is, even after you clear Patent Agent Exam, it is still important to have a master's degree in India. The people out there who are promising jobs in this field along with high salaries are making fools fools out of young minds. One has to be very sure whether you have to get into this field. Because being harshly honest, the field is very narrow and has limited opportunities atleast in India in terms of job. Yes you can start your own practice but then, the getting business can be a really difficult part.
The prosecution part of patents from different fields can be challenging because for every new invention, you have to understand the technology or understand the product, only then you can work on it. And for many a times, the projects are so top end that the topics you learn for 2 3 months in your colleges, you need to understand them in a day or two and at the same time work on them.
So, I am not demotivating for anyone who wishes to go for IP as a career. But I would say take guidance from 10 different people in this filed, talk to your friends , family, understand what they have a say about it and then take a step forward. Getting real good jobs in India is not an easy task task. There is either learing, or learning, getting both can be the most difficult part to seek!
